Aam Olas: Ep # (260) | Govt In Action (Part 2)

Aam Olas Episode 260

In this episode of Aam Olas, Yousaf Jan Utmanzai visited Peshawar where the Additional secretary welfare department started a crackdown against the beggars. It is true that Pakistan is a third world country, where the rate of poverty is high and many are forced to beg even though if they didn’t want to but they have no option left but they are in small quantity. Majority of the beggars that we encounter in the market places they are professional or else we can say that beggary is their profession.

The major point that Yousaf Jan Utmanzai wants to highlight is that we have mafias in different sectors and the same is here in the case of the beggars. It’s a mafia that is too active all over Pakistan and the case of Peshawar is no different. The locals even said that it’s a strong network or in other words mafia that is running the beggary business which is indeed the easy way to earn.

Nevertheless, the truly needy people are affected by that as none can easily distinguish between the real and fake one. Later on, Yousaf Jan Utmanzai also interviewed the arrested beggars and almost all of them were addicts. Most of the arrested beggars were on cocaine and some were using the ice drug. Upon asking questions from the arrested addicts they said that they don’t even have to bother about, where to get the drug as there are dealers on every signal and they approach them.

Crackdown against the beggary is somehow a good initiative but the government must take some precise measures against the drug dealers as Pakistan mostly comprises of youth and these drugs are now attracting the youth.
